Panasonic and Sharp exhibited new solar cells and decarbonization solutions based on renewable energy at CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT technology trade show held in Las Vegas, U.S., from January 5 to 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the Panasonic Group’s booth, themed “Green Impact City,” a tree monument (concept tree) using perovskite solar cells, a next-generation solar cell, attracted visitors’ attention. Under the tree, it is envisioned that 400 cell phones can be charged at the same time. The company proposed a prototype of a perovskite solar cell module with the world’s highest conversion efficiency of 17.9%, as well as a module with gradations by transmittance.<\/p>\n

Panasonic aims to commercialize these modules using perovskite cells within five years, as they can be used in a variety of locations, such as window glass and walls. In addition, Panasonic introduced a variety of other technologies, including green hydrogen production devices, RE100 solutions, and residential energy storage solutions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sharp also exhibited light-weight and flexible compound semiconductor solar cells and silicon solar cells that achieved the world’s highest conversion efficiency of 32.65% as automotive solar cells for the first time overseas. They are designed to be affixed to the exterior panels of vehicles and aerospace and aviation appliances for charging, for example. LCD Technology of Film-type perovskite solar cells and LC-LH (Liquid and Crystal), an indoor photovoltaic device developed by integrating dye-sensitized solar cells, were also exhibited.<\/p>\n

In addition to perovskite solar cells, which the Japanese government is focusing on supporting development, various decarbonization solution technologies, products, and services based on advanced technologies from Japanese companies are expected to be deployed around the world as well.<\/p>\n
