MIRAI-LABO installed a roadside solar power generation facility on the wooden deck at the south exit of JR Hachioji Station. It is an environmental measure project in Hachioji City that aims to become a “zero-carbon city” with virtually zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, and began operation in November 2023.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The electricity generated by the 28 “Solar Mobiway” pavement solar power generation modules (about 30 m2 in size) is stored in the “EV Repurpose Storage Battery,” which reuses waste batteries from used EVs, and lights are turned on to illuminate the flower beds, the lower benches, and the floodlights that illuminate the symbol tree. In the event of a disaster or large-scale power outage, it is also possible to provide power supply for applications such as charging smartphones to people who are unable to return home.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The cost of the project was about 30 million yen, and Hachioji City also took advantage of subsidies from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. MIRAI-LABO has provided road-level power generation to commercial parking lots and corporate premises, but this is the first time it has been used for public facilities in municipalities. Demonstration development of solar power generation using road surfaces is progressing, and this is an example of how it will lead to the development of new markets.<\/p>\n
