The Tokyo Metropolitan Government established a specialized panel called the “Renewable Energy Implementation Expert Board” in June, 2023 to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy projects. The board comprises a diverse group of experts and professionals with extensive knowledge and experience in renewable energy technologies, policies, and project implementation and they will provide recommendations on policy frameworks, regulatory measures, and technological advancements that can facilitate the widespread use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal energy.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike delivered a policy speech on June 6, 2023 and the establishment of two new expert councils to support “strategy” and “implementation” was announced in order for the Tokyo to play a leading role in energy policy.\u00a0 While listening to opinions from a broad perspective through the\u00a0 “Tokyo Metropolitan Advisory Board on Energy Issues” and strategically developing energy policies,\u00a0 the “Board of Experts on Renewable Energy Implementation” is to accelerate social implementation while receiving technical and expert advice, and promote the shift to renewable energy as a key energy source and the utilization of renewable resources such as biomass.\u00a0<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Governor Koike mentioned that the introduction of photovoltaic power generation would serve as a catalyst to change people’s mindsets and accelerate the shift to renewable energy and that Tokyo would collaborate and cooperate in the research and development of new technologies such as film-type perovskite solar cells and cylindrical solar cells, which are expected to expand the number of installation sites.\u00a0 She also added, “Along with that initiative,\u00a0 Tokyo will also support installation in existing condominiums, where approximately half of Tokyo’s households live, and strongly promote implementation in large cities where space is limited. The project is not limited to Tokyo, but will work with local governments and industry grous that are actively working to spread the solar power movement throughout Japan. In addition, the project plans to establish a 5 billion yen public-private partnership fund to promote the installation of storage batteries, which are indispensable for stabilizing the supply of renewable energy-derived electricity such as solar and hydrogen.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tthe first meeting of the “Renewable Energy Implementation Expert Board” was held on June 19 with the theme of “Solar Power Generation”. The experts have provided advice on effective and strategic measures for social implementation of photovoltaic power generation, which the TMG is promoting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Izumi Kaizuka, Director & Principal Analyst of RTS Corporation also provided advice by her presentation of \u201cTrends of Global PV power generation and Expectations for Tokyo”.<\/p>\n
